David Stevens for Appointment to
District Court Judge
CALENDAR

David Stevens grew up in Sacramento, California. After
graduating from high school, David joined the Navy and
served aboard the
U.S.S. Camden AOE-2 in Bremerton,
Washington, as a Fire Controlman Second Class (E-5).
During his six-year enlistment, he was awarded the Good
Conduct Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and
Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal.  He traveled the
Far East and saw what true lack of opportunity looks like
and saw first hand why America is the greatest country in
the world.

When David finished his Navy enlistment, receiving an
Honorable Discharge, he enrolled at the
University of
Washington and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. He is
the first in his family and extended family to get a college
degree. While getting his college degree was one of his
and his parents' dreams, the most important things he did
at UW was meeting his future wife, Pamela Zierdt. Pam has
her BA in Linguistics from UW.

After getting his degree, David was hired by the US
Department of Housing and Urban Development under the
Outstanding Scholar Program. At HUD, David worked his
way up to Federal Civil Rights Investigator, fighting illegal
discrimination in Washington, Idaho, Oregon, and Alaska.
David worked hard to make sure that families were not
denied a home because of race, religion, disability, or
other protected class. You can read an article David wrote
on fair housing at the
National Fair Housing Advocate
Online.

After working at HUD for five years, David enrolled at the
University of Washington School of Law. About the same
time, David convinced Pam to marry him. After receiving
the Mary Ellen Krug Scholarship, “for the UW law student
showing exceptional promise…” and graduating from UW
Law, David and Pam moved to Spokane. Pam grew up in
Spokane and make it clear that Spokane was the only
place to raise our children. Dave has five children: Ezekiel
Isaac Stevens (23), Samantha Marie Stevens (18), David
Scott Howard Stevens (deceased), Sarah Rachel Stevens
(11), and Miriam Naomi Stevens (10). Zeke and Samantha
are in college. Sarah and Miriam attend St. Charles
Catholic School. Please see the
family photos.

After moving to Spokane, David was hired as an Assistant
City Prosecutor and cross-deputized as a Spokane County
Deputy Prosecutor. He started out in the Domestic
Violence Unit. Currently he works in the Property Unit and
specializes in prosecuting career criminals.
David is a five
time recipient of the Property Unit's prestigious
Mammahall Award.

David is one of the most experienced trial attorneys in
Spokane. As a prosecuting attorney, David has done more
than one hundred jury trials, argued hundreds of motion
hearings, and prosecuted thousands of cases.
David has
prosecuted everything fr
om DUIs, Domestic Assaults,
Meth Labs, and Drive-By Shootings. David also regularly
argues cases before the Washington State Court of
Appeals.

David is the prosecutor that many other prosecutors
regularly go to when they need an expert opinion on trial
strategy, rules of procedure, sentencing, or search-and-
seizure. It's not unusual for judges to call on David when
he's in court on an unrelated matter to explain sentencing
law or give an opinion as to procedure. Spokane County
judges can trust David to know the law. He is a hard-
working and seasoned attorney. Dave’s record
demonstrates his passion for justice and his unwavering
integrity.

D
avid's parents, Billie Lou Stevens and Enrique Isaac
Perez y Perez, still live outside Sacramento in Loomis,
California. Rick Perez is a retired Air Force Technical
Sergeant (E-6). After retiring from the Air Force, Rick
worked as supervisor at the local Holiday Inn managing
the cleaning staff.  David's mother is a retired waitress.
Both retired from union shops. Those who know Rick and
Billie Perez know why David is so principled and where he
gets his incredible work ethic.

Ask around and you’ll find that Dave Stevens has wide
support among prosecutors, defense attorneys, law
enforcement officers, judges, elected officials, and
prominent members of the bar.
